Mugonkan Exhibition: Messages from Paintings Left Behind

Mugonkan (means museum of silence) exhibits pictures painted by young men who died in World War II.  It is located in Ueda City in Nagano Prefecture. This exhibition will show about 130 paintings from Mugonkan.

Beauty of Women in Japanese Paintings: From Kihara Bunko Collection

The exhibition will introduce the excellent collection of Japanese paintings (such as Kiyokata Kaburaki(1878 -1972)’s bijin-ga(portrayal of beautiful women) owned by Kihara Masato.

Fine Art of Koriyama ”Old and New Inherited Story”: Sesson and Others

Sesson Shukei (c.1500-1580s) is a painter, created highly influential black ink paintings throughout his career, though little is actually known about his personal life. He had stayed in Koriyama city. This exhibition will show his painting and works associated with Koriyama city.

Junshiro Sato(1907-1988) was born in Koriyama city. Toshichi Iwata(1893-1980) and Kozo Kagami(1896-1985) was his predecessor. This exhibition will examine Junshiro’s achievements in the history of modern glass crafts.

Timeless Mucha: Mucha to Manga - The Magic of Line

This exhibition features posters and other graphic art by Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939). Also on display, the exhibition showcases illustrations in literary magazines from the Meiji era, graphic arts that swept over the US and UK in the 1960s to 1970s and modern works of Japanese manga creators and artists that display influence from Mucha's works.
