Traffic rules

ページID:0031790 更新日:2022年3月22日更新 印刷ページ表示

In Japan cars drive on the left side and people walk on the right side of the road. Bycicles are defined as vehicles and therefore must be driven on the left side of the road. Make sure to follow the traffic rules and traffic lights. If you have to turn right on a bicycle, cross the crosswalk with pedestrians.

Security registration for bicycles

You must complete your bicycle registration when you purchase a bicycle. You can do this at any shop that has a "Bicycle Registration Station" sign posted.

Citizen’s Traffic Disaster Cooperative Society

Registered residents who live in Koriyama City are eligible to join the Citizen’s Traffic Disaster Cooperative Society. Members receive consolation payments for death, hospitalization, or hospital visits resulting from traffic accidents in Japan. The membership fee is 500 yen per person per year. You can apply at the Safe Community Division at the Koriyama City Hall, Administration Centers, and Civic Service Centers. Some neighborhood associations also take applications.
