When your baby is born

Submit a "Notification of Birth" within 14 days after your baby is born, counting the day your baby was born. If you and your baby will be in Japan for more than 60 days after birth you will have to fill in documents at the Immigration Services Agency of Japan within 30 days after giving birth. Visit the website of the Immigration Services Agency of Japan<外部リンク> for more details.

You most likely also have to fill in some documents at the embassy or consulate of your home country. Contact your embassy or consulate in Japan to check what procedures you will have to complete.

Children’s medical costs subsidy system

Koriyama City subsidizes medical expenses for children up to the age of 18. You must register to receive these benefits.

Visit the Koriyama City Website for more information.

Immunizations and infant medical examinations

Immunizations make children less susceptible to disease. They also have the effect of preventing the spread of disease throughout society.

About one month after a baby’s birth, Koriyama City mails out the “Sukusuku Set” — a set of documents required for immunization and infant health checkups. Make sure to bring these documents with you for immunizations and infant health checkups.
